Cape Verde goalkeeper, Vozinha has opened up about his struggle to cope with fame following his breakout performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The shot-stopper, who emerged as one of the revelations of the tournament, says life has changed drastically since Cape Verde’s historic World Cup run, and not always for the better.

“I have lost my peace and tranquillity. I don’t have privacy anymore, or at least much less than before,” Vozinha said.

“Now when I go out or go to a restaurant, there is always someone asking for a photo or an autograph. Or even worse, someone filming me.”

The 37-year-old goalkeeper became an overnight sensation and a national hero after his heroics in goal for the Blue Sharks in North America.

Vozinha revealed that his new-found fame has attracted huge commercial interest, with several companies and brands seeking to work with him during the World Cup period.

“During the World Cup, there were many companies and brands that wanted to work with me. But while we were competing, I only did one promotional collaboration, with UFL Mobile,” he disclosed.

“For now, I don’t want to work with tobacco, alcohol or betting brands.”

In a candid interview with the Observer, Vozinha confessed what many celebrities silently battle with – the loss of a normal life.

“A lot of people want to be famous and have a public profile, but they only see the positive side of that reality,” he said.

“To be honest, if I had to choose between the life I have today and the life I had before, I would choose the life I had before.”

His confession highlights the often unseen emotional toll of stardom, where privacy becomes a luxury.
