Zambia’s Republican President, Hakainde Hichilema says Zambia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
President Hichilema disclosed this after holding a bilateral meeting this morning with a UAE delegation led by His Excellency Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, and His Excellency Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs.
The meeting was held as part of President Hichilema’s working visit to the UAE.
President Hichilema said Zambia expressed gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, for constituting a dedicated team to work with Zambia.
“We reaffirmed our shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of our two countries. We also thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, for constituting a team to work with us,” President Hichilema said.
The Head of State said discussions focused on accelerating the digitalisation of government services as a key driver for improved service delivery and economic growth.
President Hichilema emphasized that digital infrastructure must be treated as a core part of Government operations, and not merely as a supporting tool.
“In line with our agenda to grow Zambia, we must use digital platforms to cut the bureaucracy, delays and inefficiencies that are slowing investment and service delivery,” he said.
“Digital infrastructure should not be treated merely as an enabler, but as an integral part of Government’s efforts to serve citizens and create a more conducive environment for investment,” President Hichilema added.
The bilateral engagement is expected to open up new avenues for cooperation in digital government, investment facilitation and public sector efficiency between Lusaka and Abu Dhabi.
